The February Fairyloot Romantasy book subscription this month was Iron and Embers by Helen Scheuerer. And what a beauty of a book it is!

I’ve been subscribed to Fairyloot’s Romantasy book box since the beginning of 2024 and I have to say, I think this month’s book may be up there with the prettiest design.

So, let’s get into the February Fairyloot Romantasy book unboxing!

February Fairyloot Romantasy Book

The February Fairyloot edition of Iron and Embers featured an exclusive redesigned cover, reversible dust jacket, full cover artwork on the hardback (which is STUNNING), character art on the endpapers, digitally sprayed edges, a bonus chapter and a ribbon bookmark.

Oh, they spoiled us this month!

Honestly, I do wish all of the Fairyloot edition books came with the ribbon bookmark. It’s just one of those little things that would make life easier. Normally, I dog-ear a book but I can’t bring myself to do that with a Fairyloot edition. So I have to find whatever I can to use as a bookmark. I probably should just buy a bookmark.

The book also has a digital signature by the author and an author letter bound inside.

February Fairyloot Special Edition of Iron and Embers Cover

I know you’re never meant to judge a book by its cover, but this cover is so beautiful I was immediately excited to read it before I even knew what it was about. In shades of purple and green, the cover features a potion bottle surrounded by flowers. It’s fairly simple but so, so pretty.

When you take the dust jacket off, it looks like a completely different book. I was really surprised by the hardback artwork (I’d forgotten that was a feature from the announcement), and I’m obsessed. It looks like an old-fashioned style notebook with the words ‘elixirs and tonics a comprehensive guide’ also surrounded by foliage.

I’m torn between keeping the dust jacket on or displaying it without.

Inside February Fairyloot’s Special Edition of Iron and Embers

Inside, the front endpapers depict the two main characters, Wren and Tori, in a misty garden setting. And, oh my goodness, aren’t they just the most beautiful characters you’ve ever seen? I’m a sucker for a silver-haired former war hero.

The back endpapers, again, show the two of them in a library setting. I’m so intrigued by this book.

About Iron and Embers

Published on January 28th 2025, Iron and Embers follows the story of Wren Embervale, an alchemist-turned-assassin seeking vengeance for the death of her friends.

Wren is offered a spot at an ancient alchemy academy to find a cure to dark magic threatening the kingdoms. However, to win her spot she needs to compete in a series of deadly trials.

Despite having to watch her back from her fellow contestants, the biggest threat comes from the man assigned to protect her, Torj Elderbrock, who has hated her since she assassinated his last charge. With their mutual hatred of each other, tensions are high.

We love an enemies-to-lovers book. I love the concept of this book and feel like I’m going to absolutely devour it.

You may have noticed my blog has undergone a little rebrand. We’ve said goodbye to Beauty and the Bookshelves and are now simply, Hollie Bolina. That’s me. I’m determined to be more consistent with blogging this year as I’ve missed it so much. But, my life is very different these days.

So, with the new rebrand, you can expect to see more posts about life, motherhood and home decor but, of course, there will still be beauty and book posts too.

I hope you all stick around and will still enjoy reading my posts!
